Skincare routine: the after-holidays detox Shopping guide and tips to rebalance our skin and say goodbye to imperfections
Every day on our skin layers of dead cells, smog and make-up residues accumulate on the face with the result that the skin appears dull, dull and poorly cared for. Did you know? Not to mention the summer vacation period that leaves us (literally) on the skin, in addition to good memories, a stressed skin; all this also derives from the extra vices that have been granted during the holidays, as well as from exposure to the sun, salt, wind and chlorine. So how can we go about purifying the skin from the inside out?
First of all, it is good to pay attention to the food that we put on the table every day because, together with cosmetic treatments, they can become great friends for a healthier, brighter and more elastic skin. Antioxidants, for example, help you keep young cells and you can find them in cabbage, broccoli, tomatoes, apples, pears, strawberries, cantaloupe, apricots and grapes. Bioflavonoids, on the other hand, slow down tissue degeneration and are easily found in soy, beans, Brussels sprouts and olives. Then, never miss proper hydration: water and herbal teas give the right amount of elasticity and softness to the tissues. Finally, fill up on fibers, which by promoting the functioning of the intestine, cleanse the body (and the skin), avoiding the accumulation of toxins: this is why it is essential to use whole grains and legumes when returning from holidays.
Next, there are 5 basic skincare steps to be taken to purify the skin of our face from the outside: open the pores, cleanse, purify, close the pores and last, moisturize.
The secret of the first step is steam: the pores that are used for perspiration and expel toxins with sweat, can also become inflamed, dilated or blocked. To clean them well you need a do-it-yourself sauna: with this simple gesture the skin purification starts. How to do it is very simple: just fill a saucepan with water and boil it. If you have any at home, also pour in the water purifying and astringent herbs such as thyme-mint, lavender, sage and also lemon peels that contain purifying and astringent essential lemon oil. In the absence of the herbs indicated, just add about 2 tablespoons of baking soda to boiling water. At this point, bring your face close to the pot to receive the direct hot steam, covering yourself with a towel. This operation will take 10 to 15 minutes at the most.
The second step is to cleanse the skin. How? Just have any purifying cleansing gel available: apply it on the face with your fingers, making circular movements on the skin for about 4-5 minutes, so that the cleanser can better penetrate the skin. After massaging the skin well with your fingers, rinse your face with warm water and finally pat dry.
