The most searched women's tracksuits in Italy on Lyst The tracksuit remains a timeless classic
The searches made on Lyst, a leading online search engine within the fashion world, reveal a lot about the taste and the obsessions of its users. After the list of the most sought after women's items, the most coveted men's sneakers, and the hottest brands of the first three months of 2019, Lyst has now published more interesting data, regarding the most searched women's tracksuits in Italy.
The fact that there has been a +28% in the searches on Lyst in the 'Tracksuit' category over the last three months reflects an important pattern. Lately, there's been a lot of debate surrounding the concept of new tailoring, the end of sportswear and the decay of streetwear as we know it. Off-White, the brand that has turned sport into high fashion, and that was and remains its most prestigious advocate, during the last Paris Fashion Week sent out a strong signal: Virgil Abloh brought to the catwalk ladylike trenches, leather suits, belted blazers, feminine dresses, and long tight dresses, leaving no room for more sport oriented pieces. So then why do more and more women look for tracksuits on Lyst?
Italy is one of the countries where sportswear has reached its highest peak because, even before this definition was coined, the tracksuit was already in our closets. It has always carried a deeper and more symbolic value, connected with the idea of belonging to a specific neighbourhood or reality. If in Italy we didn't feel the same cultural and aesthetic effect of the casual culture as they did in the UK, and even though the Three Striped tracksuits worn by the Run DMC have left a light mark on our imagination, it's thanks to brands such as FILA, Sergio Tacchini, Kappa that in Italy the tracksuit has turned into an icon, the uniform for millions of kids. As we wrote here, the Italian rap scene has played a major role in the expansion and in the growth of the streetwear movement. At the time of Cavallini by Dark Polo Gang the references to the fashion world concerned luxury brands such as Burberry, Ferragamo, Gucci, meanwhile now Givova, Legea and Zeus tell stories of battles against institutions, poverty, province and jail.
As usual Lyst divides its researches also based on the Italian regions. Lazio is the region where the tracksuit is most sought after, followed closely by Sicily, even though in Campania, Toscana, Lombardia, Emilia Romagna and Piemonte the tracksuit still remains a hot piece.
