The most inspiring campaigns for Fall/Winter 2021-22 From Prada to Chanel, from Jil Sander to Marine Serre

No daring concepts, complex or emotionally powerful images. The campaigns for autumn-winter 2021 are all based on a common mood that is direct, simple and puts clothes in the foreground. Brands opt for scenarios that evoke their heritage and history, such as the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana for Fendi or the beaches of Normandy for Louis Vuitton. Even in the world of fashion there is a desire for a return to normality, luxurious, but quiet, familiar, such as that evoked by Marine Serre or Jil Sander who entrusted its campaign to the famous photographer Joel Meyerowitz. More complex is the narrative chosen by Prada that tries to tell feelings, sense of protection and exposure through a series of different images.

Here are the 10 most interesting FW21 campaigns released so far.

Prada

Photographer: David Sims

Models: Eden Huang, Hallie Hummer

Tactile feelings, corporeity, the tangible and the concrete were the inspiration for the FW21 collection by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, a series of garments with an evocative power, designed to wrap around the body and be touched. David Sims’ shots for Feels like Prada share the same mood, evoking sensory and emotional connotations through a series of images alternating the new creations of the Milanese brand with everyday items and which, combined, tell many different stories.

Chanel

Photographer: Elizaveta Porodina

Models: Sofia Steinberg, Sade van der Hoeven, Essoye Mombot, Maryel Uchida

Dior and photographer Elizaveta Porodina explore the dark side of the world of fairy tales to provide the perfect backdrop for the long gowns, cabans, blazers and pleated skirts which revisit in a contemporary luxury style the looks of Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella or Beauty and the Beast. The protagonists remain, revisited with Cannage patterns and leopard prints, the Maison’s iconic garments such as the Bar jacket or the Lady Dior and Dior Book Tote bags.

Salvatore Ferragamo

Fotografo: Vito Fernicola / Wim Wenders

Models: Gaia Girace, Felix Sandman, Kayako Higuchi, Tak Bengana, Amar Akway, Yeop Kim

Following its collaboration with Luca Guadagnino in the previous season, Salvatore Ferragamo commissions its FW21 campaign to the cinema icon Wim Wenders, who directs A Future Together, a short sci-fi movie whose main protagonist is the Italian actress Gaia Girace. In this sort of futuristic set, the girl falls in love with a charming and shy man played by Swedish musician and model Felix Sandman. The video is accompanied by a portfolio of images by Vito Fernicola

Louis Vuitton

Photographer: Nicolas Ghesquière

Models: Clementine Balcaen, Ida Heiner, Jade Nguyen, Mona Tougaard.

Louis Vuitton celebrates Maison’ signature Spirit of Travel by setting its FW21 campaign on the beaches of Normandy. Here, creative director Nicolas Ghesquière has portrayed Mona Tougaard and the other models wearing garments designed for fall-winter that combine inspirations from Greco-Roman times with 20th century design and Fornasetti’s illustrations.

Marine Serre

Photographer: Louis Baquiast

Models: Sofya Chalaguina, Elena Chalaguin, Kristina De Coninck, Tatsuya Kitayama & Nina Kitayama, Kim Peers, Mathieu & Anton Vandekerckhove, Linus Strecker, Wolf Vandekerckhove, Chloe Winkel, Mouhameth Ndiaye, Mewil & Axel Winkel, Tanguy & Alain Poujol, Sofya Chalaguina, Amalia Vairelli, Melchior Massin

Marine Serre’s campaign pays tribute to all those who feel lost in a world of isolation during the pandemic, and takes her eco-futuristic fashion and garments from the FW21 collection to the countryside, to everyday settings such as farmsteads, playgrounds, squares and stores.
